Best time to visit Uzbekistan
Spring, summer, autumn or winter? A simple season-by-season guide to planning your trip to Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara.
© Gustavo Jeronimo from Aranjuez, Spain, CC BY 2.0 Uzbekistan has a dry continental climate: hot summers, cold winters and two long, pleasant seasons in between. Here is how each season feels for a tour of Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara.
Spring (March – May): the favourite season
Spring brings mild days, green landscapes along the road between the cities and comfortable temperatures for walking tours. April and May are the most popular months, so it is worth booking early.
Summer (June – August): hot and bright
Summer days are long, sunny and hot, especially in Bukhara. Tours are still very possible: we start sightseeing early, plan indoor visits for the hottest hours and travel in air-conditioned transport. Drinking water is included on our tours.
Autumn (September – November): golden and calm
Early autumn is warm, dry and stable — many travellers consider September and October the best time of the year. Markets are full of fresh fruit, and the light on the blue domes of Samarkand is beautiful.
Winter (December – February): quiet and cold
Winter is cold, sometimes with snow, but the sites are quiet and you can enjoy the monuments without crowds. Pack warm clothes and good shoes.
Practical tips for any season
- Booking: cancellation on our tours is free more than 20 days before arrival, so early booking carries little risk.
- Payment: 50% is due 20 days before arrival and the remaining 50% 5 days before arrival.
- Clothing: modest clothing is appropriate for mosques and places of ziyarat; women may want a headscarf for visits.
- Friday: if your tour includes a Friday, we take you to Friday prayer.
